Configuring Outlook 2007
Prerequisites
To configure this feature, you must satisfy all these requirements:
- Outlook 2007
- Windows XP with Service Pack 2 applied or higher. Make sure to have your PC fully
patched before attempting to set yourself up.
Creating a profile
To setup Outlook, you first need to create a new profile for your account. Outlook
provides a wizard to do this, and this document highlights how to use this wizard
to connect to an Exchange for Granted mailbox.
-
Open up Outlook for the first time
-
Choose Add a new e-mail account
-
The new email account wizard will launch. Choose Microsoft Exchange Server in the
first screen.
-
The next screen uses a technology called ‘Autodiscover’ to facilitate setting up
access to your mailbox. As you can see there are only a very few details you need
to fill in, viz your name, email address and the password you were given when your
account was setup (if you do not know this please call FMI).
-
Having inputted all of this information hit next and Outlook will then go off and
try and find your mailserver and mailbox setting using autodiscover. If it is successful,
half way through the process you will see a popup box that warns you that you are
being re-directed to a secure site and asking if you want to proceed – click OK
here as this is perfectly normal. Subsequently you will be prompted to re-input
your email address and password by a dialogue box so do this and hit OK
-
We are nearly finished! So long as the previous steps have completed successfully,
you should very soon be prompted by a screen tellign you that . That’s it! You have
configured Microsoft Outlook to open up your mailbox. When you launch Outlook it
will prompt for a username and password – as mooted previously, your username is
your email address.
