Configuring Outlook 2003

Prerequisites

To configure this feature, you must satisfy all these requirements:

  • Outlook 2003 with Service Pack 2 applied
  • Windows XP with Service Pack 2 applied

If you are running Windows XP and Outlook 2003, you can ensure you have the latest service packs and patches by going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and applying all critical updates

Creating a profile

To setup Outlook, you need to create a new profile. Outlook provides a wizard to do this, and this document highlights how to use this wizard to connect to an Exchange for Granted mailbox.

  • Choose Add a new e-mail account
  • Choose Microsoft Exchange Server
  • Set the Microsoft Exchange Server to exchange01steel-exmb01
  • Enter your Exchange for Granted email address as the User Name
  • Click on the button More Settings

After clicking on More Settings, the system will pause for around 90 seconds, and display a warning message. DON’T WORRY, THIS IS NORMAL! Click OK You will then get a box prompting you for server and user information. Click CANCEL to get to the settings box;

  • Click on the Connection tab
  • Put a tick in Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP
  • Click on the button Exchange Proxy Settings…

Configure this page as follows:

  • set URL to webmail.fmi.co.uk
  • tick all boxes except for 'Mutually authenticate.....
  • Set authentication settings to NTLM authentication

Click on OK twice to return to the wizard, then click on Next and Finish. Each time you start Outlook, you will be prompted for your username (email address) and password. The first time you try to connect, you may be asked for you username and password three times. Don’t worry!
